Overview
The online Creative AI Foundations Microcertificate introduces human-centered design and the role of artificial intelligence in creative practice. You’ll explore how design thinking, prototyping, and AI tools are used to create interactive digital experiences. Through this two-course graduate credential, you’ll learn how to apply foundational design and AI concepts in practice.
This microcertificate is part of the optional Digital Media Design Certificate and Degree Pathway.
Skills & Outcomes
After completing the AI Foundations Microcertificate, you’ll be equipped to:
- Apply human-centered design methodologies to AI-enhanced digital experiences.
- Design and prototype interactive systems using creative AI tools.

Digital Media Design Certificate and Degree Pathway
The Creative AI Foundations Microcertificate can be completed as a standalone credential or as a starting point for further graduate study.
Continue to a Graduate Certificate
The two courses in this microcertificate count toward one of the following four-course graduate certificates:
- Creative AI and Digital Experience Design Graduate Certificate
- Generative Media and Creative AI Graduate Certificate
If you choose to continue, you can complete two additional courses to earn the graduate certificate. Explore your certificate of interest to learn more about the specific requirements and timeline.
Continue to a Master’s Degree
The microcertificate courses fulfill the “earn your way in” admissions requirement for the Digital Media Design and Creative AI Master’s Degree Program.
After admission, you’ll continue your coursework toward the degree. You may choose to complete the graduate certificate along the way. Learn more about degree admissions, requirements, and timeline.
Tuition
Starting and Completing a Microcertificate
To begin your microcertificate, you simply register for your first course for the microcertificate — no application required. Learn how to register.
To earn your microcertificate:
- Complete the two courses for graduate credit.
- Earn at least a B grade in each course.
- Complete the courses within two years.
Starting in the 2026-27 academic year, microcertificates must be completed within 2 years. We will accept one course from academic year 2025-26, however at least one class must be completed in Fall 2026 or later to qualify for this policy change.
