The Generative Media and Creative AI Graduate Certificate equips you with the creative and technical foundation to work with generative AI across the full media production landscape. In four online courses, you’ll explore video, visual design, interactive prototyping, and immersive storytelling.
Designed for media professionals, designers, content creators, and marketers ready to lead in AI-driven production environments, this fully online certificate provides you the opportunity to learn from expert faculty amid a network of high-achieving peers.
This graduate certificate is part of the optional Digital Media Design Certificate and Degree Pathway.

Courses
The Generative Media and Creative AI Certificate includes the four online courses:
Two required courses:
- DGMD E-59 Human-Centered Design and Artificial Intelligence
- DGMD E-1 Interactive Prototyping and Creative AI
One course in generative media, chosen from the following options:
- DGMD E-10 Advanced Digital Photography
- DGMD E-42 Making the Short Film: Innovations and Practices for the Digital Age
One course in storytelling and multimodal media, chosen from the following options:
- DGMD E-30 Introduction to Media Production
- DGMD E-35 Video Editing and Digital Design
This is a new graduate certificate as of fall 2026. Any courses completed before the fall 2025 term cannot be applied to this graduate certificate. To earn the certificate, at least one course must be taken in the fall 2026 term or later.

Digital Media Design Certificate and Degree Pathway
The Generative Media and Creative AI Graduate Certificate can be completed on its own or applied toward the Digital Media Design Degree Program.
Two courses for the certificate enable you to:
- Fulfill the “earn your way in” admissions requirement.
- Earn the Creative AI Foundations Microcertificate.
After admission, you can complete two additional courses to earn the graduate certificate while also applying them toward your master’s degree.

Earning Your Certificate
If you take two courses per semester, you can complete your certificate in 8 months. If you prefer a more flexible pace, you have up to three years to finish.
There is no formal application required. You simply register for each course.
To meet the requirements for the certificate:
- Complete the four certificate courses for graduate credit.
- Earn at least a B grade in each course.
- Complete all courses within three years of starting your first eligible certificate course.
