What brought you to Harvard Extension?
After completing my active duty service contract in the United States Army, I began working in the private sector and was seeking a graduate program that was both academically rigorous and offered flexibility to accommodate a working professional’s schedule.
Tell me about the work you’ve done since graduating from Harvard Extension.
Since graduating from Harvard Extension, I have continued to serve on the Goldman Sachs Veterans Network Steering Committee, assisting with resume review, interview preparation, and career exploration for veterans seeking a transition into financial services.
In addition to working with veterans, I served as a mentor to 10 students from the Borough of Manhattan Community College through the Goldman Sachs Local College Collaborative program, designed to provide marginalized students with access to resources, career readiness, and practical experience in financial services.
For the past two summers, I served as a mentor to six minority interns participating in the Goldman Sachs Summer Securities Division internship rotations, providing daily support, advice, and coaching. I continue to serve on the associate board of the Council for Economic Education, an organization committed to providing educational tools to increase financial literacy levels among K-12 students. I also recently became a chapter advisor for Alpha Kappa Psi, co-ed Professional Business Fraternity, at New York University. And I was selected to serve as a graduate affiliate at Pauli Murray College, Yale University.
Did your experience at Harvard Extension change your career trajectory? How?
My experience at Harvard Extension school was life-changing. Through my international relations program, I was able to take courses taught by professors from various schools within the university, and go in depth, via scholarly works, on critical topics (e.g., the course I took on post-revolutionary Iran).
Acquiring this information makes it easier to dissect and interpret global macroeconomic events beyond a superficial level, which is a valuable asset in my industry. In short, my experience at Harvard Extension added to my repertoire, which, I am certain, has been an add-value in many dimensions—both personally and professionally.
What’s next for you?
I will be graduating in May 2021 from the Yale School of Management with an MBA in Asset Management. My goal is to continue to grow my career in financial services, find avenues to mentor up-and-coming professionals, and make contributions to increasing financial literacy levels in America.
