Coronavirus Updates: See latest COVID-19 news from Harvard Extension School.

When applying to a degree program, you must have an evaluation performed on certain academic credentials earned outside the United States.

  • Before starting coursework toward a degree at Harvard Extension School, you should have your international transcripts evaluated by the Center for Educational Documentation (CED) or International Education Evaluations (IEE), the only two agencies from which we will accept evaluations. If you wait until you begin the degree program application process, your admission may be delayed or otherwise jeopardized by the results of an evaluation.
  • The evaluation company makes initial eligibility recommendations but the Office of Predegree Advising & Admissions makes final eligibility determinations.
  • We accept only official transcripts (i.e., transcripts that are issued directly from the school to our office) and evaluations based on official transcripts (i.e., transcripts that are issued directly from the school to the company).

Undergraduate Applicants

If you’ve earned undergraduate credit from a college or university outside the United States and want to transfer those credits, you must have an evaluation of the transcript performed. Contact your school(s) and request two official transcripts: one to be sent directly to the evaluation company and one to be sent directly to the Office of Predegree Advising & Admissions.

Students must contact the evaluation company to request a course-by-course evaluation (CED) or a Course Report (IEE). Both companies charge a fee for this service. Instruct the company to send its evaluation electronically to the Office of Predegree Advising & Admissions at admissions@extension.harvard.edu or via postal service to the Office of Predegree Advising & Admissions, 51 Brattle Street, Cambridge, MA 02138. You may incur an additional fee for sending evaluations via post.

Contact the Office of Predegree Advising & Admissions after you receive your copy of the evaluation from the CED or IEE to request a review of it.

Graduate Program Applicants

If you’ve earned an undergraduate degree outside the United States, it must be evaluated by either the CED or IEE. Contact your school(s) and request two official transcripts: one to be sent directly to the evaluation company and one to be sent directly to the Office of Predegree Advising & Admissions.

Students must contact the evaluation company to request a general evaluation (CED) or Document Report (IEE).

Premedical Program Applicants

If you’ve earned an undergraduate degree outside the United States, it must be evaluated by either the CED or IEE to confirm that your degree is equivalent to a four-year US bachelor’s degree awarded by a college or university that was regionally accredited during the time of your attendance and graduation.

Contact your school and request two official transcripts: one to be sent directly to the evaluation company and one to be sent directly to the Premedical Program Office.

Students must contact the evaluation company to request a general evaluation (CED) or Document Report (IEE). Both companies charge a fee for this service. Instruct the company to send its evaluation electronically to the Premedical Program at hcp@extension.harvard.edu or via postal service to the Premedical Program, 51 Brattle Street, Cambridge, MA 02138. You may incur an additional fee for sending evaluations via post.

Three-Year Degrees

Ordinarily, only four-year bachelor’s degrees are considered acceptable for eligibility to our graduate program. Three-year degrees, including those earned from schools participating in the Bologna process, are considered on a case-by-case basis, as are two-year degrees.

If you possess a two- or three-year bachelor’s degree and have completed additional advanced academic coursework at a school other than Harvard Extension School, these courses should be included in the evaluation of your credentials. Contact that school and request an official transcript to be sent directly to the evaluation company. The Office of Predegree Advising & Admissions does not need to receive a transcript that reflects this additional coursework; we require only a CED general evaluation of it or an IEE Document Report that includes it.
