Why do you teach at Harvard Extension School?
As an alum of the Harvard Extension School I feel honored to teach and work with such a diverse student body. The students at the Extension School come from all over the world which makes for an engaging classroom experience. The students create an environment in which everyone is teaching and learning simultaneously. Everyone is an expert in their lived experience and that’s what makes the work so exciting.
What made you interested in your field?
My area of expertise is leadership development through the lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are not just words they are intentional actions that we take everyday in our personal and professional lives. My parents were civil rights activist so I was born into this work.
Student Collaboration
One of my former students, Amy Soto-Shed, is now one of the teaching assistants for the Extension course I teach: Diversity and Inclusion Management. She also works at Harvard Business School. She’s brought so much to the classroom experience as a former student and as a member of HBS. Her insight into the case studies and real world applications of the tools we provide our students is invaluable.
More About Tracie
Tracie Jones is the assistant dean for diversity, equity, and inclusion at the MIT School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. Her portfolio of work includes strategic planning, assessment, program development, facilitation, coaching and community engagement.
Prior to MIT, Tracie was the Director for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging at the Harvard Graduate school of Education and served on the Diversity Council for Harvard University.
She has chapter in the upcoming book: The Experiences of Black Women Diversity Practitioners in Historically White Institutions (Release date: February, 2023) ISBN13: 9781668435649
While at Harvard at the height of the pandemic, Tracie created a library guide with one of the librarians.
The project was featured in a recent story in the Harvard Gazette.
