The GIS Microcertificate gives you the hands-on training and technical foundation needed to turn spatial data into smart, actionable insights. This microcertificate includes two courses: a core course and a project-based course that puts your GIS knowledge into action.
Required: CSCI 150 Introduction to GIS (available Fall 2026)
Choose one project-based course:
- CSCI 158 Remote Sensing (available Spring 2027)
- CSCI 294 Project Work in Remote Sensing (available Spring 2027)

Starting and Completing a Microcertificate
To begin your microcertificate, you simply register for your first course for the microcertificate — no application required. Learn how to register.
This is a new microcertificate as of Fall 2025. At least one course must be completed in fall 2025 or later. Any courses completed before the spring 2025 semester cannot be applied to this microcertificate.
To earn your microcertificate:
- Complete the two courses for graduate credit.
- Earn at least a B grade in each course.
- Complete the courses within two years.
